Otoplasty is the surgical correction, or “pinning back”, of protruding ears, also known as “bat ears” or “prominent ears”. This procedure is designed to re-shape and reposition one or both ears to a more ‘normal’ position and appearance closer to the head so that they are no longer prominent.
Prominent ears can be a concern to people of all ages, from young children to adults. Children especially can be affected psychologically by name calling and teasing, etc., and for this reason many children will undergo an Otoplasty prior to the commencing school. However many adults are also concerned by the appearance of their ears, and wonder afterwards why they waited so long to “get them fixed” when it is so easy to get done.
